The Role of Ground Support Equipment in Airport Operations

Ground support equipment (GSE) is essential to efficient airport operations. Each piece of equipment has a specific function to ensure that various ground activities proceed smoothly. From loading and unloading cargo to refueling aircraft, GSE ensures that everything goes smoothly and as planned.

GSE, such as ground power units (GPUs), provide the necessary power to aircraft while they are parked at the gate. This power enables the smooth operation of aircraft functions, thus speeding up turnaround time. Other equipment, such as tractors, tow trucks, and pushback tractors, help move aircraft around the airport. These vehicles are essential for the correct positioning of aircraft, ensuring that aircraft take off on time.

Aviation ground support equipment also significantly affects passenger comfort and efficiency. Passenger boarding bridges and stair trucks help passengers board and disembark quickly and safely. When aircraft are parked outside the terminal, passenger buses are responsible for taking passengers to and from aircraft.
